Navico, the world’s leading manufacturer of marine electronics for the leisure market, congratulates the Earthrace team on breaking the record for a powered circumnavigation of the globe.
“It is very exciting to have played an important role in supporting the Earthrace team with the precise Northstar navigation system that brought them safely and efficiently around their record-breaking circumnavigation of the globe. This achievement underlines the robustness and high performance of Northstar marine electronics under the most demanding conditions,” says Jens-Thomas Pietralla, Navico President and CEO.
Navico supplied Earthrace with a Northstar 6100i integrated navigation system (pictured below) together with a 4kW high definition digital radar and a Navman 3380 autopilot for the voyage – critical equipment for ensuring that the craft could maintain the shortest and most efficient route as selected by the navigation team, and make its way safely through crowded shipping lanes and restricted waterways.
A commitment to eco-friendly boating is something that Earthrace and Navico both share, with Navico a leader in the development and manufacturing of engine management systems that enable boat owners to monitor their fuel utilization and economize on consumption with often only small sacrifices in performance.
Navico sends its best wishes to the crew as they enjoy a well-earned rest after the 61-day marathon, and looks forward to seeing the boat out on the water again when it embarks on its world tour later this year.
